Persian Supper Club in Brighton

We had an incredible night on Saturday for our Persian Supper Club – we had been looking forward to this supper club for a long time as it’s one of our favourite types of food to cook and eat.

We transformed Andy’s gallery on Queen’s Place in to a beautiful venue for the evening and were lucky enough to have some of his original art work hanging on the wall. We teamed beautiful table linens and hand-beaten brass platters – that my parents collected when they lived in the Middle East over 30 years ago – with Brickett Davda’s beautiful hand made ceramics and amazing floral arrangements from Flower and Fern. Dressing a table is easy when you have talented friends!

The menu we designed started with Persian tapas of marinated feta, esme salad and smoked aubergines with home made olive oil flatbreads. The mean course was splitpea koftas, cucumber and orange blossom salad and bejewelled rice with tahdig – a crispy golden layer which is the holy grail of Persian rice. Dessert was muscat poached rhubarb with sweet labneh and pistachio dukkah. The highlight of my evening was when one of our guests, who is Persian, told me that the food reminded her of her Dad’s cooking – I couldn’t have asked for a better compliment!

Waitrose supplied a wine pairing for this supper club, which we were absolutely blown away by. The manager of the local Hove branch had contacted us before the event to say that he had heard about our supper club and wanted to support us. The sommelier at the store beautifully paired a wine with each course including an incredible Torres Floralis Moscatel Oro for the dessert.

And of course, our guests for the evening were wonderful and we feel very lucky to have met so many interesting people, some who had travelled down from London for our supper club. It was one of those evenings that really lifts you up – the spirit of the evening created a feeling of a true gathering; something meaningful and transformative.

The beautiful photographs of the evening were taken by Sophie Haslam – huge thanks to you Sophie for the photographs and for all your help on the night.

Keep an eye on our upcoming supper clubs here.
